How to Transcribe Live Streams Using Transcribe InContext

How to Transcribe Live Streams Using Transcribe InContext

Watching a live event just to catch one announcement, quote or update can be a very inefficient use of your time. Whether it’s an earnings call, product launch, webinar or awards show, the moment you care about might only last a few seconds – but it could be buried in a live stream lasting several hours.

Transcribe InContext changes that. It connects Transcribe with AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude through MCP, allowing them to follow publicly available live streams, receive a real-time transcript as the event unfolds, and let you know as soon as something relevant comes up.

In this guide, we’ll explain how Transcribe InContext works, what you can use it for, and how to connect it to ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP-compatible clients.

What is Transcribe InContext?

Transcribe InContext is an MCP server that connects Transcribe with AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude. It allows your AI assistant to transcribe media, access past transcriptions in your Transcribe library, and follow publicly accessible live streams in real time.

Its main advantage is that it can keep your AI supplied with fresh transcript text while an event is still happening. This means you can ask your assistant to watch for specific names, topics, announcements or quotes and respond as soon as they appear, rather than waiting until the event has finished.

Here is how it works:

  1. You tell your AI what to watch: Ask ChatGPT or Claude to follow a live stream, give it a web page URL, or simply name the event.
  2. Your AI finds the stream: The chatbot locates the publicly accessible stream URL and sends it to our server.
  3. Real-time text flows in: Transcribe InContext supplies your chatbot with a fresh, real-time transcript as the words are spoken.
  4. Your AI acts immediately: The moment something relevant is said, your AI alerts you, summarises the point, or - depending on your chatbot's agent features - takes action on your behalf.

Once a live session ends, the full transcript is saved to your Transcribe library, where you can search, edit and revisit it later.

What can you use Transcribe InContext for?

Transcribe InContext is designed for situations where you want your AI assistant to keep track of a live event without you having to watch every second yourself. You can ask it to listen for specific topics, announcements, names or quotes, then respond as soon as they come up.

Here are 10 examples of what you can use it for:

Take notes from conferences, webinars and lectures

Rather than taking notes manually, you can ask your AI to follow a conference session, webinar or lecture and extract the information you care about. It can create summaries, pull out action points or alert you when a particular subject comes up.

For example: “Follow this webinar and tell me every time they discuss remote working.”

Follow product launches and keynotes

InContext can follow live product launches, technology keynotes and industry events. Your AI can watch for specific details such as prices, release dates, specifications or pre-order information.

For example: “Follow the Apple keynote. As soon as they announce the price and release date of the new iPhone, tell me, and check whether pre-orders are open.”

Follow award shows and celebrity events live

Use InContext to follow livestreams from events such as the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, Golden Globes or Met Gala. Your AI can flag winners as they are announced, pull out memorable quotes from speeches, track mentions of particular people and create quick summaries for social posts.

For example: “Watch the Oscars red carpet stream and, after each award, give me a one-line summary I can post.”

Translate a live stream as it happens

InContext can transcribe live events in any language supported by the Transcribe speech engine, while your AI assistant translates the transcript and even summarizes it for you. This makes it possible to follow a live press conference, keynote or public event even if you do not speak the language.

For example: “Follow this Japanese press conference and give me an English summary every few minutes.”

Follow earnings calls and financial briefings in real time

InContext can follow publicly available earnings calls and investor webcasts so your AI can surface forward guidance, management commentary and analyst Q&A as they happen.

For example: “Listen to Nvidia’s earnings call and tell me at once if they change guidance or mention export restrictions, and summarise the analyst Q&A when it ends.”

Headline figures are often published before an earnings call begins, so the value here is in following the discussion in real time rather than waiting for later write-ups.

This information is not financial advice.

Monitor central bank and economic announcements

You can also use InContext to follow central bank press conferences and economic briefings from organisations such as the Federal Reserve or European Central Bank. Ask your AI to listen for comments on interest rates, inflation or future policy and flag them as soon as they are mentioned.

For example: “Watch the Fed press conference and tell me the moment the chair says anything about the next rate decision.”

Track political debates and public affairs

For publicly accessible debates, parliament sessions, government briefings or UN events, InContext can provide a real-time transcript and help you track specific subjects or claims. You could use it to pull out exact quotes, identify when a certain topic is discussed, or flag claims that you want to verify against another source.

For example: “Watch the debate and flag every claim about unemployment figures so I can check them.”

Keep up with concert announcements and ticket drops

If an artist is announcing a tour or releasing ticket information during a livestream, your AI can listen for dates, presale details and codes.

For example: “Listen to the tour announcement and tell me the presale code and date as soon as they say them.”

If your AI assistant has the necessary agent capabilities, it may then be able to take further action based on that information, such as booking tickets.

Follow sports drafts, press conferences and transfer news

InContext can help you keep up with live sports announcements, drafts and press conferences without watching the entire broadcast. You can ask your AI to flag a particular team, player or topic and summarise relevant commentary.

For example: “Watch the NFL Draft and tell me who the Bears pick, with the analysts’ take.”

Monitor auctions and live shopping events

InContext can also follow public auctions or live shopping streams and alert you when a particular item or lot appears.

For example: “Watch the auction and tell me when lot 214 comes up.”

What happens after the live event ends?

After the session, the full transcript is saved to your Transcribe library, where you can search, edit and review it later.

What can your AI assistant do with the transcript?

InContext supplies your AI assistant with the transcript as it arrives. What happens next depends on the capabilities of your AI assistant, but most can:

  • Summarize the transcript

  • Flag specific topics or announcements as they are discussed

  • Translate the event

  • Extract quotes

If your AI assistant supports agent tools or external actions, it may also be able to:

  • Place orders

  • Buy tickets

  • Send messages or emails

  • Create calendar events or reminders

  • Add information to a spreadsheet or database

  • Trigger other connected workflows

What live streams can InContext access?

InContext works with publicly accessible livestreams and media URLs. Streams behind a paywall, login or DRM-protected service can’t be transcribed, and if your AI can’t access the stream, it will ask you to provide another source.

You can tell your AI the event name or webpage rather than the direct stream URL.

Important things to know about live stream transcription

Here are some key things to bear in mind:

  • Live sessions can run for up to three hours.

  • Keep the chat open while the event is running so your AI can continue checking for new transcript text.

  • Inactivity can end the session, so if the event pauses for a couple of minutes, you will need to restart the session once the event resumes.

  • InContext works with any language supported by the Transcribe speech engine (more than 120 languages and dialects).

  • If you provide important names in advance – such as people, companies, products or stock tickers – they can be recognised more reliably.

  • Live transcription uses your Transcribe time credits in the same way as other transcriptions.
