Transcribe InContext: Live Stream Transcription for ChatGPT and Claude

Transcribe InContext: Let ChatGPT and Claude Watch Live Events for You

Look away. Your AI keeps watching.

We've all been there: you want to catch a crucial update in a two-hour keynote, wait for a specific announcement in an earnings call, or grab concert presale codes the second they're mentioned on stage - without being glued to your screen the whole time.

Previously, AI assistants like ChatGPT couldn't listen to live video or audio streams. Now, with Transcribe InContext, our newly released Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, your AI can follow live events and act on them while they happen.

Unlike our previous server (which is now considered legacy), Transcribe InContext works directly with ChatGPT as well as Claude and other MCP-compatible clients. It gives you the complete "Vibe Transcribe" experience - letting you manage your transcription library through natural conversation - while adding powerful live stream transcription.

In this guide, we'll walk you through what Transcribe InContext does, 12 ways you can use it to follow live events, and step-by-step instructions to connect it to ChatGPT and Claude.

Let's dive in!

What is Transcribe InContext and how does it work?

Transcribe InContext is an MCP server that connects your Transcribe account directly to AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude.

It does everything our legacy server did: you can ask your AI to transcribe pre-recorded audio and video files, search through your transcripts, rename files, or delete old recordings. Its standout feature, however, is MCP live transcription - the ability to follow live streams in real time.

Here is how it works:

  1. You tell your AI what to watch: Ask ChatGPT or Claude to follow a live stream, give it a web page URL, or simply name the event.
  2. Your AI finds the stream: The chatbot locates the publicly accessible stream URL and sends it to our server.
  3. Real-time text flows in: Transcribe InContext supplies your chatbot with a fresh, real-time transcript as the words are spoken.
  4. Your AI acts immediately: The moment something relevant is said, your AI alerts you, summarises the point, or - depending on your chatbot's agent features - takes action on your behalf.

And the best part? After every live session, the full transcript is automatically saved in your Transcribe.com library - searchable, editable, and with speakers labelled - so you always have a permanent record to keep.

12 ways to use Transcribe InContext for live events

Wondering what you can do when you connect a ChatGPT live stream or Claude live transcription setup? Here are 12 practical use cases, complete with sample prompts you can try right away.

1. Award shows and celebrity news

Follow the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, Golden Globes, or the Met Gala via official red-carpet and press-room livestreams. Get each winner the moment they're announced, pull the best quotes from speeches for social posts, and track who thanked whom with a live Oscars live transcript.

Try this prompt: "Watch the Oscars red carpet stream and tell me every time my favourite nominee is mentioned. After each award, give me a one-line summary I can post."

2. Quarterly earnings calls

Instead of waiting hours for published write-ups, follow an earnings call live transcript to hear forward guidance, analyst Q&A, and management's tone as they happen, with instant alerts on the topics you follow.

Try this prompt: "Listen to Nvidia's earnings call. Tell me at once if they change guidance or mention export restrictions, and summarise the analyst Q&A when it ends."

(Note: Headline numbers usually appear in a press release before the call starts. Transcribe InContext is designed to help you follow live commentary and Q&A as they happen, and is for informational purposes only - not financial advice.)

3. Central bank and economic briefings

Keep tabs on Federal Reserve and ECB press conferences without sitting through every introductory remark.

Try this prompt: "Watch the Fed press conference and tell me the moment the chair says anything about the next rate decision."

4. Product launches and keynotes

Whether it's an Apple event, CES, or a major gaming showcase, let your AI watch the presentation and ping you when the product you care about hits the stage. Depending on your chatbot's capabilities, your AI can then check store pages or help you prepare an order.

Try this prompt: "Follow the Apple keynote. As soon as they announce the price and release date of the new iPhone, tell me, and check whether pre-orders are open."

5. Concerts, tours, and ticket drops

Never miss a presale code hidden inside a livestreamed tour announcement. If your AI assistant has web-browsing or agent capabilities, your AI can then head straight to the ticketing page when details drop.

Try this prompt: "Listen to the tour announcement and tell me the presale code and date as soon as they say them."

6. Sports: drafts, press conferences, and transfer news

Follow draft picks, post-match press conferences, and deadline-day streams while you get on with your day.

Try this prompt: "Watch the NFL Draft and tell me who the Bears pick, with the analysts' take."

7. Politics and public affairs

Track debates, parliament sessions, the UN General Assembly, and government briefings. Use the real-time text for live fact-checking and capturing exact quotes with timestamps.

Try this prompt: "Watch the debate and flag every claim about unemployment figures so I can check it."

8. Events in a language you don't speak

Need to translate a live stream? Transcribe InContext transcribes the original spoken language (supporting over 120 languages and dialects), and your chatbot translates and summarises the text into your language as it goes.

Try this prompt: "Follow the Japanese press conference and give me an English summary every few minutes."

9. Emergency and local briefings

Stay informed during severe weather updates or municipal public-safety briefings without having to listen to hours of general coverage.

Try this prompt: "Watch the county's hurricane briefing and tell me right away if they mention evacuation zone B."

10. Space launches

Follow NASA and SpaceX webcasts in the background while you work, so you can tune in right before the engines ignite.

Try this prompt: "Watch the launch stream and tell me if it's scrubbed, or when it's one minute to liftoff."

11. Conferences, webinars, and lectures

Turn long industry webinars or academic lectures into structured notes and action items - or simply wait for the section that applies to you.

Try this prompt: "Watch this software webinar, take notes on the key takeaways, and tell me when they get to pricing."

12. Auctions and live shopping

Waiting for a specific item in a multi-hour auction stream? Let your AI keep watch for your lot number.

Try this prompt: "Watch the auction livestream and tell me when lot 214 comes up."

Tips for getting the best live transcription results

To make sure your live sessions run smoothly, keep these pointers in mind:

  • Use publicly accessible streams: Transcribe InContext works with free, publicly accessible streams - such as official red carpets, press rooms, company investor-relations webcasts, and government or UN streams. Broadcasts behind a paywall, a sign-in, or DRM (like a TV network's app) can't be transcribed; if a stream is restricted, your chatbot will let you know and ask for another link.
  • Keep your chat window open: During a live event, your chatbot needs to keep checking in for new text. If the chat stops checking in for a couple of minutes, the live session ends automatically (and everything heard up to that point is safely stored in your library).
  • Mention important names in your prompt: If you list specific names - such as people, companies, products, or stock tickers - in your prompt, our speech engine will recognise them even more reliably.
  • Keep session limits in mind: A single live session can last up to three hours, and uses your standard Transcribe.com time credits just like any other transcription.

Transcribe InContext FAQs

Can ChatGPT watch a live stream?

Not on its own - but with the Transcribe InContext MCP extension connected, ChatGPT can follow publicly accessible live streams in real time. Transcribe InContext listens to the audio and feeds a live transcript directly into your ChatGPT conversation so the AI can summarise, alert you, or take action using its built-in tools.

How does Transcribe InContext differ from the previous Transcribe MCP server?

Our previous MCP server (now considered legacy) focused on managing and transcribing pre-recorded files and did not connect directly to ChatGPT. Transcribe InContext supports everything the legacy server did, works directly with both ChatGPT and Claude, and adds the ability to transcribe a live event in real time.

What happens to the transcript after the live stream ends?

After every live session (even if you end it early), the complete transcript is automatically saved to your Transcribe.com library. From there, you can search it, edit the text, view speaker labels, or export it using our online editor or mobile app.

Can Transcribe InContext buy tickets or place orders for me?

Transcribe InContext provides the real-time text of the live event to your AI. Actions beyond reading and analysing the text - such as buying tickets, checking external websites, or sending messages - depend on what your chosen chatbot can do (for example, ChatGPT's agent features). Once our server delivers the live alert, your AI can then use its own tools to act on your instructions.

How much does it cost to transcribe a live event?

Live sessions use your existing Transcribe.com time credits, just like standard audio or video transcriptions. New users get free transcription credit to try the service, and you can top up with pay-as-you-go hours or upgrade to our PRO plan at any time.
